4 Ways edTech is Transforming Student Learning Experiences

It’s no secret that the K-12 classroom is constantly evolving. However, the goal of education remains the same: promote learning to improve student outcomes. Research indicates that the use of technology can increase learning gains, and in today’s new classroom, curriculum and technology enhance each other. Without one, the other is not as effective, and each needs the other to be complete. Here are four key areas where technology can lead to an improved learning experience:

1. Content

A good curriculum arms a teacher with the content needed to help students learn, but it’s the intentional use of technology that takes a lesson from good to great. When quality technology enhances quality content, learning is brought to life. For example, students no longer have to solely read about historical events, they can see and feel what it was like to be there through immersive storytelling using rich media and content.

2. Formative Assessments

When teachers are continuously checking students’ understanding, they are able to personalize instruction, meeting the needs of each individual student and improving student achievement. Educational technology allows both students and teachers immediate access to results, providing meaningful feedback to the students and an “instructional roadmap” to teachers.

3. Data

Reliable data fuels the feedback loop, enabling teachers to understand who may not be grasping a subject or where on an assessment a student may be having trouble. The promise of technology in education is to shorten that feedback loop and give both teachers and learners insight into the actions necessary to make progress.

4. Interoperability

The role of technology in school is ever-increasing, and each year more and more technologies are available to teachers. In order to successfully embed digital learning into your curriculum, it’s key that classroom technologies work well with each other. Bouncing between digital tools can cost valuable instructional time unless technologies are streamlined. If classroom technologies operate in unison, both student engagement and instructional time are increased.
